Microsoft 365 is Now Free with Ads in India: What You Need to Know

Microsoft is testing a new way to make its popular Office suite more accessible. According to recent reports, users in India can now use Microsoft 365 (previously known as Office 365) for free with ad support. This means users can access Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps on their PC without paying for a subscription—but they will see ads inside the app.

How It Works

When users download and install Microsoft Office on their PC, they may now see two options:

  1. Continue for free with ads

  2. Subscribe to Microsoft 365 (ad-free experience)

If the free option is selected, basic features of Microsoft 365 become available. The ads appear on the right-hand side of the app window.

Availability

Currently, this ad-supported version of Microsoft 365 seems to be available in India. Some users in neighboring countries have tried it, but it hasn’t worked for me yet. Since my country is close to India, I believe Microsoft is slowly expanding this feature to more regions.

How to Get It

Anyone can try it by downloading Microsoft Office from the official website:
👉 Download Microsoft 365

After installation, sign in with a Microsoft account. If the feature is available in the user’s region, the option to continue for free with ads will appear.

Why Microsoft Is Doing This

This move seems to be Microsoft’s way of offering Office apps to more users while still earning revenue through advertising. For those who only need the basic features and don’t mind seeing ads, this could be a great alternative to paying for a subscription.
