Windows 11 Just Got Way Faster! How to Enable the New Low Latency Profile (KB5089573)
If you've been waiting for Windows 11 to feel as snappy and responsive as you know your hardware can handle, your wait is officially over.
Microsoft has just released a major preview update—KB5089573—that can make Windows 11 feel up to 70% faster! This performance leap is part of Microsoft’s dedicated "Windows K2" initiative, an ongoing effort focused entirely on optimizing system responsiveness and core shell performance.
Let's dive into what this update brings, how it works, and how you can enable these massive speed boosts on your PC right now!
What’s New in Update KB5089573?
While this update brings several welcome quality-of-life improvements—like shared audio features, an improved Windows Magnifier, updates to Task Manager, and new camera capabilities—the absolute star of the show is General Performance.
Microsoft has heavily optimized core system components, including:
-
The Start Menu
-
Windows Search
-
File Explorer
-
The Notification / Action Center
But how did they achieve this sudden jump in responsiveness? It all comes down to a brand-new feature called Low Latency Profile (LLP).
Understanding the "Low Latency Profile" (LLP)
There has been a bit of confusion online about how LLP works, with some assuming it forces your CPU to run at maximum capacity constantly. This is not the case!
How it actually works:
-
Intelligent Spikes: When you interact with your system—like clicking open the Start Menu, triggering a search, opening File Explorer, or launching a heavy application—LLP allows your CPU to instantly spike to its maximum clock speed for just 1 to 3 seconds.
-
Snappy Responsiveness: By drawing out that extra speed exactly when you initiate an action, applications open instantly and UI transitions feel incredibly smooth.
-
No Extra CPU Usage: Your overall CPU utilization (percentage) stays completely normal. If you aren't doing anything, your CPU will still sit quietly at 0% to 2% usage. It simply unlocks higher clock speeds when an active performance burst is required.
Note: If your laptop is set to Power Saving Mode, your CPU is underclocked to preserve battery, meaning LLP will not trigger. You’ll want to run in Balanced, Performance, or Ultimate Performance modes to get the full speed boost!
How to Get the Update the Standard Way
To install this performance-boosting update, follow these simple steps:
-
Open your Windows Settings (Win + I).
-
Head to Windows Update.
-
Make sure the toggle for "Get the latest updates as soon as they are available" is turned On.
-
Click Check for updates.
-
Look for KB5089573, download it, and restart your computer.

Didn't Feel a Difference? Here is How to Force Enable It!
Because Microsoft rolls out new features like LLP gradually, you might install the update and not notice the speed increase right away. This is because the feature flag is still disabled on your system by default.
Luckily, you don't have to wait for Microsoft to flip the switch. You can force-enable the Low Latency Profile immediately using an open-source tool called ViVeTool.
Step-by-Step Guide to Force LLP:
-
Download ViVeTool: Head over to the ViVeTool GitHub Releases page and download the latest
.ziparchive. -
Extract the Folder: Extract the ZIP file's contents to a folder on your computer (e.g., your desktop or
C:\ViVeTool). -
Copy the Path: Open the extracted folder, click on the address bar at the top of File Explorer, and copy the folder's file path.
-
Open Command Prompt as Admin:
-
Press the Windows Key, type
cmd, right-click on Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator.
-
-
Navigate to ViVeTool: In Command Prompt, type
cd /dand then paste the folder path you copied earlier, then hit Enter. It should look something like this:cd /d "C:\Users\YourUsername\Desktop\ViVeTool" -
Run the Activation Command: Paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter:
vivetool /enable /id:58989092,60716524,48433719,61391826 -
Restart Your PC: If successful, you will see a message saying "Successfully set feature configuration". Simply restart your computer to apply the changes.
Once your system boots back up, try opening your Start Menu, searching for a file, or opening File Explorer. You should immediately feel a much snappier, lag-free experience!
