Octos: A Free and Lightweight Live Wallpaper Engine for Windows
If you’ve been looking for a simple, free, and open-source live wallpaper engine for Windows, there’s good news: Octos has just been released. It’s lightweight, customizable, and even available on the Microsoft Store.
You can download Octos directly from its official GitHub page or install it from the Microsoft Store. Since it’s open-source, the community can also contribute by creating and sharing new wallpapers.
Key Features of Octos
Interactive Live Wallpapers
Octos comes with a variety of wallpapers. For example, there’s a 3D globe you can rotate with your mouse, a solar system view, and even a fun terminal-style wallpaper that shows time and date in different animated styles.Notes Wallpaper
One of the most useful wallpapers is the Notes option. It turns your desktop into a canvas where you can draw, write notes, or doodle. You can switch between light and dark mode, change pen colors, and keep your notes right on the desktop.Custom Layout Wallpaper
With the Layout feature, you can create your own wallpaper by adding your own custom image or video, widgets such as time, date, media controls, clocks, images, or notes. You can position and resize them however you like, making it easy to design a desktop setup that fits your style.Audio Visualizer
Octos also includes an audio visualizer wallpaper. When you play music, it reacts in real time, and media controls appear so you can pause or skip tracks directly from the desktop.Multi-Monitor Support
Octos supports multiple monitors, so you can set wallpapers for specific screens or apply them to all at once.
Why Try Octos?
Octos is still new, but it already offers some exciting wallpapers and customization options. Since it’s open-source, more wallpapers and features will be added by the community over time. It’s a great alternative if you want a free, lightweight, and flexible live wallpaper engine for Windows.
