Tacky Borders: Add Cool Borders to Your Windows Applications

Tacky Borders is a free and open-source application that allows you to add borders around your open applications in Windows. These borders can be customized with different colors and even animated for a more dynamic look.

How to Get Tacky Borders

  1. Download: Go to the releases section of the Tacky Borders GitHub page and download the latest version. It comes as a zip file, so you'll need to extract it.

  2. Run: Once extracted, simply run the program. There's no installation required as it's a portable application.

Using Tacky Borders

Upon running Tacky Borders, you'll immediately notice borders around your open applications. The default colors are blue and purple, but you can easily change them.

Customization

To customize the borders, you'll need to edit the program's configuration file:

  1. Show Config: Right-click on the Tacky Borders icon and select "Show config." This will open a folder containing the config file (a .YAML file).

  2. Edit Config: Open the config file with a text editor like Notepad. Here, you can change the colors using hex codes. You can also enable animation by changing the FPS setting from "false" to "true."

Additional Tips

  • Run as Administrator: If you find that borders aren't appearing on all applications (like the task manager), try running Tacky Borders as an administrator.

  • Run at Startup: To have Tacky Borders run automatically every time you start your computer, simply add the program to your startup folder or use task scheduler.

Tacky Borders is a simple yet fun way to customize the look of your Windows desktop. Whether you're a fan of tiling window managers or just want to add some visual interest to your applications, it's worth checking out.
