Microsoft’s Push for Online Accounts in Windows 11
We all know the Windows 11 system requirements can be a bit demanding, especially for older PCs. While there are ways to bypass these requirements, another challenge is brewing for those who prefer local accounts.
Many users, like myself, prefer installing Windows 11 with a local account first. Later, we might switch to a Microsoft account to access certain features. Some people simply prefer local accounts and want to avoid Microsoft accounts altogether.
Microsoft's Push for Online Accounts
Now, it seems Microsoft is making a significant push towards mandatory online accounts. They're actively trying to block methods that allow users to bypass the Microsoft account and create local accounts. In a recent preview build blog post for the dev channel, Microsoft removed the 'bypass NRO' command, which allowed users to skip the online account creation during setup.
Why the Fuss?
You might be wondering why this is a big deal. For many, it's about control and privacy. Local accounts offer a sense of independence, while Microsoft accounts offer convenient features like automatic syncing via OneDrive etc, they also raise privacy concerns for some users due to data collection.
Workarounds and Alternatives
While this change has upset some users, there are still workarounds. Tools like Rufus can help create bootable USB drives for Windows and disable features like the online account requirement. Additionally, a new command has surfaced on Twitter that allows users to create local accounts.

The Future of Windows Accounts
For now, the situation isn't dire. There are still multiple ways to create local accounts in Windows. However, the future of Windows accounts remains uncertain. It's possible that future versions of Windows may force users to use a Microsoft account.
