Windows 11 24H2 Brings Multi-App Camera: Use Your Webcam in Multiple Apps!
Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 24H2 (KB5052093) update brings an exciting new feature called Multi-app Camera, allowing multiple applications to access the camera stream simultaneously.
What is Multi-App Camera?
Traditionally, only one application could use the camera at a time. With Multi-app Camera, multiple apps can access the same camera feed at once, making it easier for users to multitask during video calls, streaming, and content creation.
Accessibility Benefits
One of the key motivations behind this feature is accessibility. It was developed with input from people with hearing disabilities to enable seamless video streaming for both a sign language interpreter and the end audience at the same time. This ensures better communication and inclusivity in video calls and live broadcasts.
Use Cases
Video conferencing: Use the camera in Teams and Zoom simultaneously.
Live streaming: Stream on OBS Studio while using the camera in another app.
Sign language interpretation: Enable an interpreter feed alongside the main video.
