Microsoft Copilot’s New Press-to-Talk Feature
Microsoft is making it easier than ever to interact with Copilot on Windows with the introduction of the Press-to-Talk feature. This new functionality allows users to engage with Copilot using voice commands without needing to rely on a wake word. Instead, they can simply press a hotkey to start speaking.
How It Works
With Press-to-Talk, users can activate voice input by holding down the Alt + Spacebar
keys for two seconds. This enables them to give commands, ask questions, or request assistance hands-free. When done speaking, pressing the Esc
key will end the interaction. If there is a pause in speech, Copilot will automatically stop listening after a few seconds.
Why It’s Useful
Faster Access to Copilot – No need to type or use a wake word. ( even though wake word would be even better)
More Efficient Workflow – Get instant help while working without switching contexts.
Enhanced Accessibility – Beneficial for users who prefer voice interactions.
Who Can Use It?
This feature is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders as part of Copilot version 1.25024.100.0 and later. It is being delivered via the Microsoft Store, ensuring that testers can experience the new functionality before a wider release.
