ShredOS: A Minimalist OS for Maximum Data Security
ShredOS: Securely Wipe Your Drives with This Lightweight Bootable OS
ShredOS is a small Linux-based operating system designed to securely and permanently erase data from hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), and other storage devices. It is a bootable OS that runs entirely from a USB stick or CD, making it an excellent tool for data destruction tasks.
Key Features of ShredOS:
Data Erasure with nwipe:
ShredOS comes pre-installed with nwipe, a command-line tool that securely erases drives using various methods, including DoD 5220.22-M, Gutmann, and random overwrites.
Bootable Environment:
Since ShredOS is bootable, it runs independently of the installed operating system, ensuring that the drive can be wiped even if it's the primary system disk.
Lightweight and Fast:
The OS is minimal and fast, focusing solely on secure data wiping without unnecessary software or features.
Open-Source:
ShredOS is free and open-source, allowing users to inspect its source code for transparency and security.
Use Cases:
Securely disposing of old drives
Repurposing or selling used storage devices
I have also made a video showing how this OS works so watch the video down below for more information.
