Microsoft is Making Windows on Handheld Gaming PCs More Like Xbox
Windows Game mode like Steam OS Game Mode? that would be really cool.
Microsoft is taking steps to revolutionize handheld gaming PCs by integrating key Xbox features directly into Windows. This effort aims to deliver a more seamless and console-like gaming experience on devices such as the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. Currently, Windows interfaces on handheld devices aren’t fully optimized for gaming, requiring users to rely on traditional peripherals like keyboards and mice. To address these limitations, Microsoft plans to improve controller support and redesign interfaces for better usability on handhelds.
Rather than developing a separate operating system for handheld gaming, Microsoft intends to enhance the existing Windows platform by incorporating Xbox’s gaming-focused features. This approach will unify the gaming experience across devices, making it easier for users to switch between their PC and console environments without losing functionality or comfort.
Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s Vice President of Next Generation, emphasized the company's commitment to simplifying the user experience. Ronald noted that improving controller support and designing intuitive interfaces are critical steps toward making Windows feel more like a dedicated gaming console when used on handheld PCs.
By unifying Xbox and Windows ecosystems, Microsoft aims to create a versatile platform for both casual and hardcore gamers. Additional updates on these developments are expected later in the year, with the potential to reshape handheld PC gaming.
