Microsoft Copilot is getting a native app for Windows 11

Microsoft Copilot native app for Windows 11

Microsoft is currently testing a new update to the Copilot app on Windows 11. This update introduces a "native" version of the app, replacing the previous web-based version.

Here's what we know about the new Copilot app:

Native app: While it's called a "native" app, it's essentially a wrapper around the existing Copilot website. It doesn't significantly change the underlying functionality.

Quick view UI: The update includes a new "quick view" UI that can be accessed with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space. This provides a smaller, more convenient way to interact with Copilot.

System tray icon: The new app adds a Copilot icon to the system tray for easy access.

Will it work without Microsoft edge?

No,and Yes, the new Copilot app for Windows 11 still requires WebView2, the rendering engine that powers Microsoft Edge, even though it's now a native app.

While it doesn't directly rely on the Edge browser itself, WebView2 is essential for displaying the Copilot interface.
