Google Assistant was launched with Google Pixel smartphones and it was only available for Google Pixel phones but now Google is now rolling out Google Assistant app for all android devices and they already released the Beta version and you can now get that beta version Google Assistant on your phone.

Requirement for GOOGLE ASSISTANT (as Google mentioned)
Android 6 MM or Above
least 1.5 GB of memory and a 720p or higher resolution screen.
